"Breaking News: Washington Commanders Make Shocking Choice for New Head Coach! You Won't Believe Who's Taking Over!"

The Washington Commanders are set to appoint Dan Quinn, the current defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, as their next head coach, as per sources close to the matter.

Quinn will take over from Ron Rivera, who was relieved of his duties by the team’s new owner, Josh Harris, shortly after the conclusion of the season. The Commanders had previously hired Adam Peters as their general manager on Jan. 12, marking the first significant moves under Harris, who completed the acquisition of the team in July.

During the hiring process, Washington considered several candidates, including Mike Macdonald (who accepted the head coach role with the Seattle Seahawks), Aaron Glenn (defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions), Anthony Weaver (associate head coach/defensive line for the Baltimore Ravens), and Bobby Slowik (offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans). They also explored the possibility of retaining Washington’s own offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy.

Quinn’s contract details are yet to be finalized, but head coaching contracts typically span five to six years. At Dallas, Quinn played a pivotal role in shaping the team’s defensive strategies over the past three seasons, leading to impressive defensive rankings and turnover statistics.

Potential replacements for Rivera in Dallas include discussions with the former Commanders coach, while Joe Whitt Jr., the Cowboys’ passing game coordinator, emerges as a leading internal candidate. Similar discussions are expected in Washington.

Other potential coaching staff additions include Al Harris (Cowboys secondary coach) and Aden Durde (Cowboys defensive line coach), who have both previously worked under Quinn in coaching roles.

Quinn’s coaching experience includes a stint as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015 to 2020, during which he led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2016. Despite a mixed performance record towards the end of his tenure, Quinn’s coaching style earned praise from former players and colleagues.

With significant draft picks and available cap space, Quinn faces the challenge of rejuvenating the Commanders, who have struggled in recent seasons and seek to rebuild under new leadership.
